One of our missions here at The Good Grocer is to leave the Earth a better place for our children! And we are thrilled to announce that we’ve partnered with One Tree Planted so now every box we sell helps plant a new tree.
Our goal for 2020 is 10,000 trees planted. We are almost 1/3 of the way to that goal already with 3,059 trees planted!
So why trees? We believe that supporting a healthy tree population and working on global reforestation will also keep our Earth and children happier and healthier. Trees clean the air, filter water as it passes through the soil, absorb carbon from the atmosphere, provide habitat and food to 80% of land-dwelling creatures, and provide millions of jobs. Trees are a resource we must protect!
So why One Tree Planted? When we looked around for a nonprofit to partner with, our main goal was to find folks who aligned with our mission of environmental sustainability but also someone who was doing the actual work. We didn’t just want to throw money at a cause, we wanted to know our donation would result in real change. And One Tree Planted definitely fits both of those criteria.
They plant one tree for every dollar donated. They work with vetted reforestation partners who grow the trees in a nursery; choose the right tree for the right ecosystem and planting purpose; and monitor and maintain the trees’ health and environments. They even track the trees’ growth (with photos!) and report back to us on how our trees are growing. In 2018, they were able to plant 1.3 million trees!
